Slough & District

Talking Newspaper for the Blind

A special facility is available to blind residents in Datchet.

The Slough & District Talking Newspaper for the Blind
provides a free service by providing a 90 minute audio
tape by post to registered listeners every Saturday
morning. These tapes provide a balanced report of
selected extracts from the two local newspapers the
     Express and the Observer.

The Association has been offering the service for over
20 years. Some 60 volunteers, who give freely of their
time,  record the tapes on Friday mornings. These tapes
are then copied and delivered to the Royal Mail by 10pm
on Friday evening. The Royal Mail delivers the tapes free
    of charge.

The Association's Life Vice President is a Datchet
resident , Percy Whitford. A founder member, he was
Chairman of the Association for 10 years.
