Datchet, Horton and Wraysbury

 
     Dear Residents,                                                                                       October 2010

     My name is PC Nick KLUGER and I am the Neighbourhood Officer for Datchet, 
     Horton and Wraysbury. I am currently in the process of setting up a Community
     Speedwatch scheme in the area and I am looking for volunteers to help run this
     operation.

      Community Speedwatch is a community led initiative supported by NAG and working
    with the Safer Roads Partnership to promote road safety and combating excess speed
    by drivers on our local roads.  The operations are chiefly run by volunteers from the
    community accompanied by local Police Officers and Police Community Support
    Officers. A Community Speedwatch Operation involves volunteers using speed
    enforcement equipment at designated sites on the area where a problem with speeding
    drivers has been identified.  

   Volunteers will be trained in the use of speed enforcement equipment and will use it to
   identify speeding vehicles enabling us to then send out warning letters to the registered
   owners advising them of their excess speed and the potential consequences of their
   actions.

   The letters are not Notices of Intended Prosecution but simply a warning giving words 
   of advice to drivers who speed in our area.  

   Community Speedwatch has been successful in other areas in reducing the problems
   associated with speeding drivers and I am keen to recruit volunteers who want to be
   involved with making the roads in our community a safer place to be. There may also be
   the opportunity to work in other areas on a ‘Volunteer Exchange’ basis. I am currently
   looking to collaborate with Surrey Police and also other Neighbourhood areas within
   Thames Valley Police.
